Our First Outing

For our first adventure, we influenced a brave group of friends to stray from the usual Brookhaven restaurants and try some “Buford Highway Cuisine”. We ventured up to Shoya, a Japanese restaurant close to Brandsmart. (http://www.shoyaatlanta.com/).

The menu is huge, as well as difficult to digest. Our server was not as forthcoming with the recommendations as we would’ve liked – it may have been the language barrier. We decided to try a bunch of different things. It was very easy to order more, as any time you needed anything, all you had to do was press the buzzer in the middle of the table. The waiter would be at our table within 30 seconds. And of course we ordered plenty of Sapporo and Sake.

Lesson learned for next time – write down the best and worst tasting items so we know what to order next time. Enjoy the pictures of the food for now. As an fyi – this is one of the more affordable places to dine with a group. With all the beer and food we ordered, our total was less than $25 per person. At the end of our trip to Shoya, everyone was pleasantly surprised with the experience and tastes.

More to come…

Here We Come World!

At the age of 28, I’ve had a truly blessed life so far. I’ve had the pleasure of living in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Marietta, Maryland, DC, New York, and Connecticut. I’m blessed with a wonderful family, amazing friends, and a great job. A few months ago, I had a realization that I was not cultured.

Not cultured? In life, I have tunnel vision and focus on what I’m doing in the moment. I rarely read the news or embrace the opportunities that are in my back yard. I’ll go weeks with Facebook and word of mouth being my only source of keeping up with the world today.

After months of saying that I’m not cultured, I made a commitment to do something about it. And as always, it’s best to start a new project with a support system. One of my best friends, Lindsey Selleck, has also committed to branching out and trying new things. This blog is a place for the two of us to document all of the wonderful things we experience on our culture journey. You will also find guest bloggers from time to time.

What do we consider culture? Everything and anything that shapes the world today – history, art, music, theatre, food, lessons, environments, scenic views, etc.

Cheers to appreciating the world!
